Welcome to Jonny's Doctor Who Site.
On this site I'll give you reviews of some episodes, an episode guide, a Doctor guide, etc etc.
Doctor Who is a long-running British cult science fiction show. It features a time travelling alien called the Doctor
and his time and space machine, the TARDIS.
Started in 1963, the show was originally meant to teach kids about history and science, as the Doctor, his student granddaughter
Susan and her history teacher Barbara and science teacher Ian travelled into Earth's past or all over the universe. But eventually
everyone liked sf better, so it was changed slightly.
10 actors have now played the Doctor. When Doctor Number 1 William Hartnell had to leave the show due to health problems,
the writers invented a process of regeneration, whereby the Doctor could save his own life in a crisis by changing his appearance.
The show was cancelled in 1989 by the BBC. In 1996, Fox and BBC made a TV-Movie starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor.
This was originally supposed to kick off a new series, but ratings were poor in the US.
Then in 2003, a webcast, Scream of the Shalka, starring Richard E Grant as the Ninth Doctor, was made by BBCi. But somehow,
just before it was released, a 2005 TV series was announced, shoving Grant's Doctor into unofficial status.
The 2005 series starred Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as his latest companion Rose Tyler.
However, Eccleston quit after just one series, and so the latest Doctor is now played by David Tennant. Tennant is currently
signed up for a 2005 Christmas special, known as The Christmas Invasion, a 2006 series, a further Christmas special
and a 2007 series. Billie Piper will again star in the 2006 series but probably not the 2007 one.
There have also been two unofficial "Dr Who" movies in the 1960s based on Dalek episodes of the TV series starring Peter
Cushing as Dr Who.
In 1993 a Children in Need special called Dimensions in Time was made in 3D. The first two Doctors had unfortunately passed
away, but the other five, plus some EastEnders characters, and The Rani, were in it.
A Red Nose Day spoof with Rowan Atkinson, The Curse of Fatal Death, was also made, although this is pretty ridiculous
so I won't continue.
